I really loved The Never Tilting World and my initial reaction upon finishing it was that I had absolutely no notes - 10/10. After the rush of finishing a book wore off though, I did have to admit that it was not entirely perfect.

But let's start with the good! First of all, the plot had me hooked. I did not want to put this book down and I never happened to get bored. The two worlds of the novel was such an interesting and unique premise too. Creating such expansive contrasting worlds and trying to convey that through 4 POVs is no easy feat and I appreciate what Chupeco delivered. Character-wise, I was invested and rooting for them with each of the main 4 having their own motivations and arcs to deal with. The romance subplots were also a nice addition to the book, providing a relief from the heavy fantasy aspects.

However, while I was invested in all 4 characters, I can't say that this investment was equal. I found myself enjoying Arjun and Haidee's perspectives, story, and world far more than Odessa's and Lin's. I'm not sure if this is due to some personal preference for characters like them and their interactions or if there's an actual critique to be made, but regardless, it's something to note.

Otherwise, suuuper cool book - I really wish I'd gotten to it sooner and I'm excited to read the sequel!

I remember the world back when it was soft and good, where I could watch the sun set before stars graced the sky with their shine. Do you know what I would give to see a sunset again, lad?

I turned to get past the writing style, and while there’s nothing specifically wrong with it, it wasn’t for me.

This takes place in a world divided by sisterly betrayal that tore the planet apart, one realm in perpetual night and the other scorched by the sun. Twin goddesses and their daughters—Odessa and Haidee—hold the key to a shattered world's healing. One is accompanied by a healer and the other a bold scavenger, they embark on perilous journeys across treacherous wastelands, driven by a calling to the site of the ancient rift. All while not knowing the other is alive. As secrets unravel and sacrifices loom, these young heroines fight to mend their fractured world.

This flipped my expectations on their head. I was fascinated by the slow descent into evil that is one of the character arcs and then bam! Surprise, nothing is as it seems. Chupeco is a master at storytelling that slowly builds with great, complex characters.
