The pacing of these books can be so jarring but I loved that scene in Scotland.

I don't even know where to begin with this book. I feel like I just wasted days reading this and nothing happened. It literally deserves two stars in my opinion, but I gave it three because it's only redeeming quality is that, to me, Blake was able to write all of this mess which half is above my brain capacity for understanding it's so smart.
Now, to the bad qualities. Nothing happened really, like for real. I learned more about the characters, some people coupled off that I wasn't necessarily expecting, but I feel like nothing "big" went down.
There were times I felt like "this should be a big reveal" of some kind, but instead I was left confused and maybe just needed her to retrace some story lines or give me a summation as to why this was such a big deal. But maybe it was just that bad? I don't know, I almost set this book down and said "screw it".
Last, but certainly not least (I'm just tired of reviewing this book already), it felt like we got lost in the characters here. We dove into their minds, research, and possible futures beyond the house. But nothing seemed cohesive. The story just wasn't going anywhere with all these different story lines. Not to mention that often their "thoughts" or "philosophies" just felt like you needed an above average brain to understand. It was as if I was sitting with a Harvard student, who finds himself (definitely a him) superior to anyone, and only speak is vague philosophical paragraphs and deems all over conversation to be below him.
Will I read the next one? Probably. But, that's just because I really did like the first book, it had an interesting story that I wanted to follow and I now want to see it end. I'm really also hoping that Blake can redeem herself with the last one.
