Marjane’s story of her childhood in Iran is told with truth and brazenness. She experienced awful events growing up in Iran, but retained her youth and showed us her life through a kid’s eyes. She seemed like such a badass child, and I can’t wait to see more of her growth in book 2.

A beautiful window into how children experience political unrest and cultural upheaval. As someone who spent her childhood amidst The Troubles in Northern Ireland, I identified deeply with the confusion and anxiety incongruity Marjane experienced from her knee-high vantage.
