I’m not a fan of plants, The Odyssey, or Beowulf, yet I still enjoyed this book. If you like one or more of the things, you’re in for a real treat.

Okay three thoughts:

1) The audiobook is great - highly recommend it!
2) If you've ever questioned what your friendships look like as an adult woman... this book exactly explains what it's like.
3) If you're looking for some fast-paced, contemporary... this isn't that. it's slow. There's not a lot actually happening, but it's really thoughtful and I genuinely enjoyed reading it.

A dear friend from college sent me this book earlier this year. She loved it and she knew I would as well. (Books + friends + gardening = perfect!) She wrote her name inside the cover, I did the same, and then I passed it along to another wonderful friend who is doing the same. It makes me so happy to think of this book being passed from one fortnight friend to the next. Great book!

I enjoyed the facts about trees and plants mentioned by the narrator. The main character appears neurodivergent, and I loved the methodical way she went about researching etiquette prior to her visits and acknowledged the awkwardness of certain situations that were relatable. It was a quick enjoyable read, and makes you think about your own friendships and how to better cultivate and cherish them. The storyline about May’s mother was sad, but I liked how the author uncovered it gradually and May was almost methodical in her conscious efforts to avoid repeating the cycle. Highly recommend for book clubs.

A heartwarming, heartbreaking, tender tail of friendship and family and love, in all its forms.
