This one is a classic for a reason, and well ahead of its time. I had never read it, and blew through it in one sitting. A scathing commentary on the unrealistic expectations placed on women for perfection. This didn’t even feel far fetched based on the current state of affairs, which is the terrifying part.

I love this book!
Reread it after several years to ensure it was still one of my favourites.
There are some areas where I would have loved a bit more detail, but overall this short book packs a real punch. At somehow manages to be terrifying, hilarious, pointed, and timely despite being written over 50 years ago.
Joanna is such a good character. As I was reading the end of part II I found my adrenaline pumping despite having read the book before and knowing what would happen.
Ira Levin’s writing style is to the point, punchy, and precise.
This book has so much more to offer than the film versions or the cultural reference it has become. I highly recommend.

Levin is truly the master of the short and sweet. He manages to build tension in 50 pages where Stephen King takes 500. Reminiscent in some ways of Rosemary's baby, this is a great short read.

This has to be the shortest novel I’ve ever read that wasn’t classified as a short story. Even calling it a novella is generous. I think the brevity may have hurt it, building a sense of dread and suspense over more pages could have made the book even better. Although, as it is it’s something of a very dark comedy. The concept and writing are great and it shares a common theme with “Rosemary’s Baby” of “it’s not paranoia if they’re really out to get you.”
