As a rule, I don't willingly read or watch the subject matter of this book. However. The synopsis is totally useless and it was a book club pick, so I went into it blind, and was very impressed. I might have to watch the Last of Us now and give other stuff a chance.  *shudder* I felt like this was wonderfully well-written and the characters were excellently done.

I had no idea what this book was about going in and I'm glad I didn't. I don't think I would have read it if I knew...but I wound up really enjoying the story. Some tough parts but overall a truly well done story.

The reading level is YA. I would have liked this as a 13 year old boy.

The ideas were very simple. And the four characters were very simple (mere types, per Montaigne), like a Fantastic Four comic book.

So as a story it left me with almost nothing to ponder. But the sentences, transitions, and paragraphs were elegant. I wish I could write like this. It was a bit like reading Neil Gaiman with more interesting sentences but less interesting ideas and way less interesting characters.

This would make a great gift to a pre-teen.

Whoa. Beautiful writing for a zombie novel. It was riveting from start to finish, though there was more crude language than I was expecting.
