I just cannot get to with these super broken characters that have no qualities except being broken because of ~*secret tragic backgrounds*~

Not to mention the characters are:
1) a single dad grieving the death of his kid's mom (I'm assuming there was some kind of affair with his brother but don't quote me on that) who feels guilty about his discovered kink
And
2) a woman who suffered a miscarriage and ghosting by the man she put all her futures on.
None of which are relatable or characters I can even find myself being sympathetic to.

I also really hate this writing style. The one sentence paragraphs are killing me.

Who doesn’t love a story of overcoming heartbreak and finding new reasons to love being alive?? This one does it all! With a little bit of mystery mixed in, and a whole lot of spice!! Loved it!!

challenging dark tense

This book is pretty fucking intense and I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it — now I LOVE a good hunt and chase so I expected to absolutely froth over this book — however cnc features heavily as well and I’m not so sure how I feel about that — I mean I can understand how some people would find it hot but given my history it just doesn’t sit well with me and has made it difficult to give bait a spice rating— I did read my trigger warnings before starting the book so I was fully aware of what I was getting myself into — and I did love it, the storyline and characters were dark, twisted & intriguing, the push and pull between our mc’s is super hot and angsty and believe it or not there is also an awwwwwwwww factor which does a good job at attempting to even out some of the sharper/darker edges of the storyline

Wow. I went into this not know what the heck to expect. The premise was one that intrigued me (although very dark) but I quickly fell in love with both of these characters.

The writing was poetic at times and I found everything flowed really well. The storyline gripped me from the start. It started off so dark and sultry and quickly became romantic and heartwarming. I loved these characters and I loved the story. A very fast read.

So juicy. I couldn’t put this book down. It had thrills and spiceeee. I loved every second except it was too short. I needed more!

I feel like this book just wasn’t for me. The book started out really good but at 50% mark it just wasn’t any more. There was too much sadness and unresolved trauma that I feel like was just eventually pushed under the rug. By the end I feel like Abi and Leo didn’t really even know each other. It almost felt like a trauma bond rather than an actual relationship. But maybe that’s just me.

What I felt like was too much was the fact that there were no real consequences for Jake. Since the beginning Leo was ridiculed for everything. What happened to Mariana, for cutting contact with Jake and allegedly stealing everything from Jake. Jake was just wallowing in self pity and tried to kill Abi and Leo and himself but Leo just understands?
It all felt so anticlimactic. Leo having went through so much is just the bigger person and gets Jake to not go through with any of it.
Seemed unfair almost. The lack of consequences.
