4.5/5 deliciously dark

This is a story of broken souls. Two individuals who have lost so much, but managed to find a sick and twisted way to heal. It's totally consensual, more or less safe, and incredibly hot.
While the plot took a little bit to get going, once we learned the demons, I was pulled in.
This was dark, twisted, but incredibly heartwarming all the same

It was only supposed to be one night.

Abigail has suffered unimaginable loss and has run away from all that she knows to escape her painful past. But her dreams of the monster chasing her in the dark have persisted since childhood. Now she wants to meet a monster in real life, needs to work out her demons with a stranger in the most life-affirming way possible.

Phoenix Rising, aka Leo, has demons of his own to work out with the internal and external scars to prove it. His past, however, is always with him, not easy to escape even if he wanted to.

Leo offers to fulfill Abigail’s fantasy…for one night. One night, however, is not enough for him or his “Bait”. Abigail’s delicate beauty, quiet strength and vulnerability have gotten under his skin and
Leo has awakened the primal sub in Abigail that she didn’t know existed.

This is a story of sexual exploration and healing with an FMC and MMC that have you rooting for them from their very first and explosive encounter on the page. The chase and sex scenes are graphic and scorching, but just enough to move the story forward and show the emotional growth of Abigail and Leo as they evolve beyond the carnal needs that brought them together, to the desires of their hearts and souls.

The revenge and suspense subplot with Leo’s troubled brother Jack was predictable but skillfully woven through the storyline and making for an emotionally wrenching, revelatory and edge-of-your-seat climax.

I liked Abigail’s and Leo’s seamless transition from a dark and smutty collaboration to sweet domestication by the epilogue. Not that the couple gives up on their primal games entirely, just that they make room for the lighter and tender side of their relationship as they move toward a future together.

“You can have everything you want, just know that I’ll take your everything in return.”

Fun. Fast paced. Very smutty.

This book was everything I hoped it would be. I discovered some stuff about myself that I am not sure if I should be happy or a bit scared.
This book covers two characters that have lots of trauma in their past and are trying to heal, however they seem to be stuck in the process.
Abigail has left home and everyone she loves to move on from what happened to her, however she is mostly going about her life in a fog. She is alive but not really living any more.

Phoenix is going about his day to day life pushing his feelings about his past in boxes and hoping it does not come out at all. He is living but he is always angry and refuses to talk about what happened.

After a chance encounter online where they both decide to tell their secrets to a stranger. This book is amazing for anyone who wants to read dark romance, with healing. Please read trigger warnings as there are dark moments in this book that may not be for everyone.

Although the premise was good, this one just seemed to go on and on. It really could have been told much better in fewer words.
