❤️What I Loved:

🔥 The Writing! Wow! You can tell that she is a poet, there was a distinct rhythm to the writing that reminded me of her novels in verse.

🔥 The perspective of a young parent that isn’t about having their child. It seemed like a balanced perspective of it being a tough experience, but not the end of their life. Seeing Emoni balancing all the different part of her life, and succeeding without being perfect was really satisfying. Sometimes YA characters seem to either be the Type A overachiever or floundering in all parts of their life.

🔥 The descriptions of the food really inspired me to want to cook! The way her emotions were cooked into the food really exemplified how cooking was a passion and an emotional release for Emoni. I think that if you are in a cooking slump, this would be good inspiration to be creative in the kitchen and try something new!

💛What I Could Have Done Without:

🧊 I could have passed on the relationship drama with Pretty Leslie. I don’t think that it added much to the story, and I was unconvinced by the resolution to that relationship arc.

Overall, I would definitely suggest picking this one up soon! I will be reading The Poet X very shortly!
