I really wanted to enjoy this book, in part because it's narrated by Jim Daly, but it just didn't hold my attention.

I wanted more of the countries and less of the schedule. The beginning was very slow to me but eventually the adventures caught my attention.
It's all a bit… dry. You can see why the adaptations have changed from the book so radically considering what a cold fish Fogg is and how nothing-y the obstacles are (and obviously the incredibly imperialist attitudes). His club friends also have no issue literally bankrupting him which is sort of brushed over. It's just lost a lot of its charm over the years since it was published as cultural ideas have moved on.
I really loved the set up for this journey, I didn't expect it to be that simple or petty.
It's really intersting that this type of story could have only taken place in a 20-40 year time span in all of human existence. It make me wonder what other stories are similar to this one in that way.
It was also very weird to read this book and realize that half of the journey was spent in land owned by England and this book was not written that long ago.
My favourite aspect of the book was the adventure and side stories that took place in each location. The parts that I liked the least were the sections that were describing the environments that they were in. It is my fault for not thinking about how much of this book would be like that and I am sure it was much more interesting to read when this book was written and most people had no concept of what the rest of the world was like. I also wonder how much of this book is wrong and/or racist and how much of it was true of the places visited at the time.
