I feel like the ending was VERY rushed. And while, yes, it did make sense, you're telling me a guy like Phileas Fogg - who plans and keeps track of literally everything he does in a day - did not think about this? Hmmm. Also, if I have to read PHILEAS FOGG, AOUDA or PASSEPARTOUT one more time I will scream. Other than that I really enjoyed traveling the world with these people :)

I want to be as unflappable as Phileas Fogg. One huge gap of logic at the end concerning the international date line, but great!

Why is there a hot air balloon on the cover? Why is that image so closely associated with this book?
Spoiler: they never take a balloon. Huh.

Very much a book of its time, I think, though hard for me to judge if the author was sincere in his stereotypes that are often racist (by today's standards) or if he's offering social commentary through sarcasm or tongue-in-cheek descriptions. Those nuances are lost in time, though I suppose I could read literary criticism to find out what the academics say. He does caricature the Americans in a comical way, though. That, and his portrayal of French, Indian, British, and a few other nationalities, it is a bit of a world whirlwind tour of the stereotypes in the major world stage players. Maybe that's the symbolism of the hot air balloon?
This audiobook is very entertaining, with many sound effects and great accents and voices. Would captivate even a younger audience (8+ maybe).

jfc that was slow and boring. wouldnt you know they travel the world in as short a time as they can, so its basically just 'woAh when will the next boat be [and then they are on the boat]. woAh we gove goota wait hOW LLONG for the next boat??? [and then they are on the bost] with s o m e hijinks in between. the main guy is written intentionally drab and boring so the sidekicks can shine brighter, but theyre also quite broing and annoying. also nonstop praising of colonialism which. makes sense for the time but just reads today as 'dear god shut up about britains hold on hong kong I GET IT you think colonialism was good'. racism around indigenous americans. indian damsel in distress who gets whitewashed faster than you can say Aouda. less than barely any talk of the great sights they are seeing, bar comments of how relieved Passepartout is to be in the English Part of Town™ (or how scared he is to be in the Native Part of Town™)
