Wasn't totally into the premise, but mainly couldn't deal with the horrible characters and all the sexism/unpleasant portrayal of sex. I felt like all the rapey-ness and gross sexism + strong homophobia vibes were going unchallenged: I know it's Atwood so of course I know she's writing to expose or mock those kinds of perspectives but honestly I need to feel that underpinning critique within the novel itself rather than trusting that the author's heart is in the right place. After struggling for a while I dropped it upon reading 'slut' far too many times in Stan's inner monologue.  I feel like I need a palette cleanser!

This book was just weird. It's not the sex stuff that was weird. I don't mind weird sex stuff. It's that the dystopia didn't seem realistic. At the same time, parts felt boring. Parts of the world haven't changed, yet parts are so different.

At the end, it tries to wrap things up, but it doesn't feel successful.

This novel had a great start then half way through it started to lose my interest and the last 3rd was a drag.
