La storia è buona, una specie di rivisitazione del laureato in cui però sappiamo cosa accade dopo che il ragazzino e la donna di mezza età si mettono insieme. è un libro ben scritto, ma è talmente senza speranza e deprimente che non sono riuscita a godermi la lettura.

Um belo livro sobre o Amor, mas tão sofrido e tão real que nos faz pensar sobre a nossa vida sentimental. Só quem nunca amou ninguém, não irá perceber a dor expressa no livro.
Não há relações só porque sim, mas damos sempre muito de nós no amor.
Um livro muito bem tecido, sem pontas soltas e que revela uma história de amor desde o seu início até ao fim. Um jovem que se apaixona por uma mulher muito mais velha. Toda a obra é uma reflexão, o juntar das memórias desse jovem agora velho que tenta entender o Amor. O que correu mal, o que correu bem, o que de facto viveu com essa mulher.
O livro satura às vezes com o pensar de tantos detalhes, mas é mesmo assim que alguém reage emocionalmente numa situação semelhante.
Se o Amor é sofrimento enquant dura e quando acaba, porque nos apaixonamos? Porque sim, porque faz parte de nós. Se pensarmos no sofrimento, não queríamos embarcar na mais bela das viagens?
Uma grande obra de Arte.

Някой би се заблудил по корицата на „Единствената история“ (изд. „Обсидиан“) на британеца Джулиан Барнс, че това е сантиментална романтична история, която нищо чудно книжарите да подредят до Никълъс Спаркс или Сандра Браун. В нея се разказва за баналната връзка между по-млад мъж и омъжена жена в английските предградия. Тези, които са чели нещо от Барнс („Предчувствие за край” , за който писателят печели „Букър“, се доближава най-много до излезлия току-що роман), ще знаят обаче, че ги очаква нещо съвсем различно.

3.5 Superbly read (in a fine British accent), but the story itself dissolved from a promising beginning to a bit of a twist in the middle to somewhat diluted musings at the end. I liked the narrator less and less as the story progressed. Mixing the 1st, 2nd and 3rd person narration was interesting, but again, somewhat messy. Barnes' sentences and language are quite well crafted, as usual, but the story itself was a bit lacking for me. All in all, at least the audio narrative was worth listening.

I expected so much more, after having been devastated (I know people use that word too much) by The Sense of an Ending. I would give part one five stars, part two four stars and part three three stars. Like the protagonist's life the novel just kind of peters out.
