Thank you NetGalley for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I love Beauty and the Beast, it’s one of my most favorite fairytales. So, seeing it in a manga adaptation got me really excited.

Since this was Belle’s Tale, it didn’t really provide a completely different perspective than what we already saw in the original book and movie. It was pretty much a short and concise view of everything that happened.

The flow of the manga felt a bit off at times because sometimes I’d have to read from left to right and at other times from right to left. The story also felt a little rushed, even though we got the entire gist of what happened.

The illustrations didn’t feel uniform throughout the entire manga. The characters looked a little off in some of the scenes and in certain positions. The characters also sometimes looked a little distorted and blurry (which I hope won’t be the case in the print version of the book). I liked the choice of colors though, since they really represented Belle’s view of the world.

I’m looking forward to reading the Beast’s tale, and I hope it’ll give readers a new view of the fairytale since we didn’t get a lot of the Beast’s POV in the original.

“The people who talk behind your back are destined to stay there.”

“It’s a choice, everyday, to be the best person you can be. To turn your anger into passion. To bring change, not destruction. To find beauty in love and understanding. And to find ‘home’, wherever you go.”

Beauty and the Beast is my all-time favorite princess story which is why i requested this via netgalley but i ended up very disappointed. i feel like it wasn't a completed project. the art wasn't my favorite since i'm so used to the disney style (and i love it) and also because it wasn't exactly manga style, just sort of looks like it at times. but that's not really the problem. the problem is that the art lacks life and feeling in many instances that i felt expressions were important. also, many pages were blurry and i'm not sure if that's because i got it via netgalley or if the final version also looks like this.

in terms of the story, it didn't move from one panel to the next smoothly. at the start, i felt like it tried to keep lines that are from the original disney songs which didn't really feel like they fit. in a musical it works, as dialogue in this manga, not so much. some scenes just moved went from A to B with no explanation as to how it happened (ie. when Belle returns to the castle. she was locked up, how'd she get out?? i know it was implied but there wasn't even a transition).

i think it could have been a much better adaptation if it had been developed more. why try to cram everything into one volume? also, random, but the japanese sound effects kind of bothered me, it just didn't work imo

First I would like to thank the publishers and Netgalley for providing a copy of this book for me to read in return for my honest review.

I'll be completely honest, Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie which also makes Belle my favorite princess. I loved reading this manga in a full color rendition and the color choices they made followed closely to the original film which was a nice detail. The manga itself follows the story told by the movie very well, it is fast tracked to get everything important in and doesn’t seem to miss any of the really important parts. I would love to read the partner to this, Beast's Tale just to see how the story differs from his view. I gave this manga 4.5 stars because while I enjoyed it, I feel it could have benefitted having more volumes to flesh out the story better rather that rush through it. If you in any capacity enjoyed the original Beauty and the Beast movie you will enjoy this manga, please check out the full color edition over the regular edition as it really elevates this manga.

I've never actually read the original book of Beauty and the Beast but I love manga and thought I'd request a review copy from the publisher. I'm assuming it's been kept pretty close to the original story, but like I said, I don't really know.

Most people are pretty familiar with the general plot of this tale, where Belle meets the Beast and is kept prisoner in exchange for her father's freedom. She discovers the truth about what happened to her mother all those years ago, and begins to fall in love with the once-terrifying Beast. But when the village learns of his existence, they are not welcoming or friendly toward him. And his time is running out...

I've always found it to be a bit of a weird story, but I suppose it is kind of cute? But this review isn't on the plot, as this is just an adaptation of the original. The art that's used is quite nice, not particularly outstanding in my opinion but still good. I always find these manga adaptations to be a lot easier to understand, but the watermark on this review copy did get in the way a bit! Obviously, you won't have that issue if you buy the novel, though.

If you're a fan of the classic tale then you'd probably really like this. And it'd make a great gift, I think. 3.5 stars.

A good tie in to the live-action film that enables readers to get inside Belle's head a little more.

Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite stories and I loved the recent live action movie so since this is basically an exact novelization of the movie in manga form, clearly I was going to love it. The artwork is beautiful and detailed. Other than the art, the story doesn't bring much new to the table that you didn't see in the movie itself, but as part of my Beauty and the Beast collection this was a must.

3.5/5
Overall this was fun, but I wasn't a huge fan of the art style, and because the movie is condensed into one small manga it felt quite rushed.

That being said I would recommend for fans of Beauty & the Beast, and people who like manga because its cute and fn way to relive the movie

This is a manga adaptation of Disney's Beauty and the Beast movie. It is told in Belle's perspective. I like the concept of having twin books. But because it is a different platform, the story is in a rush. The illustrations are beautiful like typical mangas. Nothing new about the plot but I still want to have a hard copy of these books.
