This was cute and I think a really accurate portrayal of what it feels like to lose yourself in motherhood.
A quote I liked: a loved child has many names.
Gosh the part where her dad visits was infuriating. Just like oh yeah now I see why she is this way. And the frustration of all the work she does to break the cycle and he just comes in and wrecks it. I really felt that.

A story that spans decades, focusing on the narrators relationship. Falling in love, losing herself, and finding herself again. The book runs in parallel with the political back drop of the UK over this time period. At times the politics felt unnecessar and failed to add much to the story. An easy read with strong charcter development.

Gosh I loved this book. Multiple times I wondered if the author was actually inside my head—she captured what it is to have and raise children in a time of political chaos and with the backdrop of childhood trauma. But the ending—it was so neat. So quick. I feel like the book needed maybe 10-20 more pages to earn that ending or to embrace ambivalence.

Took quite a big break about half way through this book just due to life/pregnancy energy levels
Was surprisingly easy to pick back up though
Overall enjoyed the story and found the character struggles relatable but just didn’t have a strong enough story or impact from the politics to rate higher
