I want to preface this by saying that I love Mitch Rapp, and I love Vince Flynn, and I will eventually own all of these books.

That being said... this one was a bit of a struggle for me in the beginning. I like Mitch Rapp and these books because Mitch is a man of action. He hates politics and he takes no crap from anybody. (Especially a certain Director Ross. I laughed so hard! You'll have to read it to understand.) But in this book, we have a little bit of action in the beginning... and then the entire rest of the first half of the book, is like all the behind the scenes prep. The wheeling and dealing that took place to then get to the very big and very bad thing that happened that then causes Rapp to go into some serious action.

Again, I love Vince Flynn. I love his novels. And all that behind the scenes stuff... I do think it's necessary. It shows you the trail from where the plot was initiated for this novel, all the way up to it coming to fruition. You get to figure out who all the players are, and how they got involved. You also get to see, after the climax takes place, how the CIA and all the other good guys manage to track it back to all these people. (Who honestly thought they were going to get away with it? With Mitch Rapp at the center?? Please!)

But there was a lot of it. Like... and maybe it's just me. But it was A LOT. I think the point is for you to be in suspense up to the point where the climax takes place. Like, the point is for you to be on the edge of your seat trying to figure out if the bad guys actually pull it off, or if Mitch is going to pull something from up his sleeve. And I'm not giving away any spoilers to let you know if that happened or not, but for me... there was just too much of it. Usually, I wish these books had extra pages. This time, I could've done with a few less.

All that said, I still love Mitch Rapp and this series. I love how there's no question about whether or not he's going to go after the people trying to hurt him. Even the people who would like to be able to bench him know that they have no shot at actually pulling it off. I would've liked more action in this one, but ultimately, I am still completely satisfied with this book. Can't wait for the next one to see where exactly Mitch is going from here. (I feel like we were left on an odd sort of cliffhanger! I need to know what the next thing is!)

NO!!!!!!!! This book made me so upset. I can't believe that Anna was pregnant and then she died. If I was Mitch in all terms of physical and mental I would have killed the father. I know that they are sorry for killing her and they were naming their baby after her but that doesn't make it better for Mitch. He was going to have a family with the love of his life and she was just taken away from him.

There were parts of this book I didn't like and it took me a while to get into it, but I found myself crying on the last page. Any book that can make me cry deserves at least 4 stars!!

Now, the books are either getting better slowly but surely, or I'm getting used to them.
For all that the storyline on this one isn't the most pleasant, I enjoyed it and it kept me intrigued and reading all the way through. As normal, the beginning is a bit slow and the ending far too fast, but hey, you can't have everything.

I just wish the first half was a little faster. Too much philosophical ramblings that I ended up skipping. Overall, the plot and storyline were solid and interesting though.

This book is a glazed donut, enjoyable and regrettable at the same time. If you like jingoistic unrealistic books with such dialog as environmentalists "are the biggest group of brainwashed dipshits on this planet" and similar intelligent sentences, you'll love this.

If you have a brain and don't mind using it , there are other much more worthwhile books to read. That said, the pacing and general plotting works for this style of beach read. You need to be able to suspend belief and be cool with the idea that the protagonist is the "doesn't like authority" type, and only one who "can defend America from Islamic terrorists and liberal politicians", to really get lost in this book.

The events are action-packed and written vividly well; it's easy to imagine the sequences. Flynn's characters are relatable and Rapp, even how tough and deadly he is, is emotionally engaging.
