Gorgeous story, beautifully written and aimed to the heart of the reader. My favourite read of this year so far!

Congrats to Shelby Van Pelt on such an amazing debut! 🩷 I read this for book club and honestly was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Marcellus was the ultimate star of this book, and I do wish he had gotten more time to shine, but I loved his journey. Michael Urie was the PERFECT narrator for this role. 😆 Tova was absolutely wonderful and quirky. Cameron was the annoying character who you couldn’t help but root for and hope for the character development. The book was a bit slow to start, but the backstory was necessary to understand how everything tied together.

This book is all heart - I am so pleased I picked this one up too see what all the fuss was about! Other than being on my radar, I went in blind and I am so glad I didn't read blurbs/reviews and the story revealed itself organically with the turn of each page.

Remarkably Bright Creatures includes the most beautiful displays of 'found family' (and finding 'lost' family), of kindness, resilience and the courage to keep going. The story is so beautiful and is equally complimented by the writing which is exquisite. I honestly could not wait to pick this book up after work for the last couple of evenings, a heart touching story which will stay with me - and also has increased my appreciation for octopuses! Highly recommend and a fantastic debut by Shelby Van Pelt (couldn't believe it!) - will definitely pick up the next without hesitation!

The audio book is a must read (must listen?) for the octoupus's narrator alone!

I enjoyed the characters (mostly) and eventually learning how their stories intersected. I wasn’t crazy about how long it took to get to that point or that it felt like you started somewhat in the middle of things with no clear explanations and just had to trust the process until it got to that point. Overall it was a nice story and something different to read. Not something I likely would’ve picked on my own. I enjoyed it for the most part though.
