Retcons most of IWTV. More philosophy and questions of good/evil and loss of humanity than the rest of the Vampire Chronicles. Comfy horror vibes over plot and characterization.

I read this as a stand-alone introduction to Anne Rice’s series The Vampire Chronicles
Based on the origins of Lestat, it follows his baby vampire days.. I found this very slow paced, it took me so long to finish as I never felt drawn to picking it up. A very reflective vampire novel, with a morally grey character. A little snobby at times.
