This was a great suspense/thriller book: excellent pacing, likeable characters, the right balance of action, and a slow reveal of the secrets behind it. My biggest complaint - which I'll try to keep spoiler free - is that I felt some of the twists were poorly supported: they felt like they existed only to surprise you and didn't actually make sense looking at the bigger picture beyond just the last chapter. Not enough to penalize below a 4 though, and I tend to have this problem with the genre as a whole. Overall, a solid thriller I enjoyed a lot.

This is an engaging mystery, though the reveal felt a bit forced. Mostly, the amount of racist stereotyping and tropes that occur in this book felt a bit distracting. I wonder if the author would be able to publish this book,as is, in 2023.
