This is a well done mystery novel. I was able to guess The Who in The Who Done It, but I do read a lot of these sorts of novels. Even though I guessed the ending this book was still really fun to read. And to me that is probably the biggest trait a mystery book needs to have. Even if you guess the twist/the killer/whatever you want to enjoy the ride to the reveal. You want a book you can’t put down. And this book is was exactly that sort of novel for me.

This is one of my favorite mystery authors and this is my favorite book of his. Very suspenseful - I couldn't put it down.
I picked this one up for my husband because I heard that it was a great, twisty thriller. He read it and seemed to have difficulty putting it down (I have a photo of him standing awkwardly in the kitchen, ignoring us, trying to finish it).
This just wasn't my cup of tea at all. First of all, it was dated. I read classics all the time, so I'm accustomed to reading old books, but this one was published in 2001 and it just really felt like 2001. I suppose popular fiction just doesn't age as well.
Secondly, the mystery isn't all that mysterious. There are smaller twists along the way but the big twist is revealed early and I found that let all of the air out of the story. I just wasn't all that invested anymore.
3 stars.

It was a quick read- ending was a little bit of a let down- wanted closure of some of the characters.
Wow. THAT is how you write a thriller! It took me a few chapters to get all of the characters straight and really become embedded in the story. But once I did this book was virtually unputdownable. I had seen Harlan Coban‘s “The Stranger“ on Netflix— in my opinion this story is even crazier! Highly recommend. Loved it.
I’m a fan of Harlan Coben but this one seemed too wordy, too long, too many something or other.
One day David and his beloved love of his life, Elizabeth, go to a deserted lake to enjoy themselves but when he goes to the middle of the lake and she gets out on the pier…everything changes for them both.
Fast forward 8 years and suddenly there are mysterious emails that come to him with hints in them that only his wife would know. But he is told to “tell no one.” Bodies are discovered and the case against David reopens and he’s suddenly thrust back in the suspect list. Running from the police, running from his past, trying to figure out what really happened in those woods 8 years ago and discovering secret after secret keeps David pretty busy.
Hester Crimstein makes an appearance in this book, as she does in many of his books. Although she redeems herself in the end, I wasn’t a fan of how she reacted in the middle. She’s supposed to tough, stick it to the man kind of woman but in this one she just gives up and quits mid-way through and that just didn’t fit her MO that I knew of her from other books.
Some parts were long but overall it was a decent read. I figured out who did it well before the end of the book so the plot twist wasn’t a huge surprise for me.

Great fast paced book with lots of twists and turns! Will keep you on the edge of your seat and you'll definitely finish it quickly
After reading so many murder mysteries I feel like I can predict how a book will end and/or who did it half way through. This book however had so many plot twists that I wasn't able to predict the ending at all. Okay i guess I had the ending somewhat figured out but how everything came about was a mystery up until the very end!
