I don’t know how to feel about this book. I’m very conflicted. I read it all in one day BUT at times it was a real stuggle.

I feel like it started strong. I enjoyed the arc of Oraya as a “prisoner” within the castle walls and refusing to interact with anyone. The escape attempts, the battle, the sneaking around the castle = love. I think that section of the book lasted the perfect length of time.

The problem was when we got to the middle. I felt like it just dragged on and on and on and on. I really had to push myself though the middle of this book.

The end was decent but i felt like it wrapped up WAY too quickly. I mean I expected a much bigger battle with more loss. (speaking of, I wasn’t really a fan of the mirrored ending with the first book iykyk)

I think my biggest problem with the book was the conveniant reveals. Like at least 3 times there was a twist that felt like it came out of no where but not in the good way. I would read them and think “huh. alright guess that a thing now”. They were both expected and unexpected.

I don’t think this was a bad book but it didn’t feel like it can compare to the first. The first book had me on the edge of my seat, kicking my feet, and swooning while the second felt like it dragged.

I think it was an okay follow up book but I wish it had more of an impact. Honeslty, by the end of the book, I found myself just counting the pages until it was over.

The first 200 pages are frustrating but the build up is so worth it! I sympathy cried multiple times from how real all of the relationships and experiences are.
