The first line was so promising. I held out hope through the first several chapters. Then… it unraveled. An interesting read nonetheless. But grateful for the length, otherwise may have wound up as a DNF. didnt mind the end, but had hoped for a tad bit more.

Kind of expected more of this but it’s also only 131 pages so duh. Still gave I don’t want to keep reading but I do want to know what’s happening next vibes. Good palate cleanser LOL.

Reading Reindeer December Challenge
Prompt: Dasher--read a short story, collection, or novella
This was a fairly solid novella. While I wasn't a fan with the direction Jones took the story, I will say that at least it made sense and was consistent with the tone and atmosphere he had established. The voice took a bit of getting used to, but once I had gotten accustomed to it I enjoyed it. I think it really fit with the setting, tone, and feel Jones was aiming for. Overall, this was a fun, short horror novella perfect for people looking for a quick, spooky read.

I had pretty low expectations of this considering I've only heard negative reviews, but I had $6 of Kindle Rewards saved up, so I went ahead and bought this novella!
The premise is simple, 4 friends play a prank on their friend, Shanna who works at the local movie theater and things go south pretty quickly! Is there a killer on the loose or a manic mannequin?
I love a good slasher movie and have trouble with slasher books, as I feel they don't radiate the same energy; however, Stephen Graham Jones did that! I enjoyed my time with this, but the narration wasn't my favorite. It's definitely unique, but I think I would've preferred it to feel less like a diary entry after the events and more so happening in the present time.
Overall, I don't think this novella will have a lasting impact on me, but I am glad I read it!
