More like a 2.75 but rounded up because my interest has been piqued enough to continue reading the series.

"Truth and Other Lies" offers a unique take on Loki from Norse Mythology, earning a respectable 3.5 stars. It's important to note that this book is more of a retelling of Loki's mythos rather than a completely new story. While the pacing and storytelling are commendable, the overall experience may vary depending on one's expectations.

The narrative unfolds as a flashback, providing a detailed account of Loki's mythological events. This storytelling choice, while contributing to the depth of the story, might not appeal to readers expecting a continuous present-day narrative. The first book sets the stage for what seems to be a continuation in the second, but it's uncertain whether the approach will change.

The pacing of the story is well-handled, and the plot maintains engagement throughout. However, readers should be prepared for a narrative that feels predominantly like a flashback, with the present-day elements appearing primarily at the beginning.

In conclusion, "Truth and Other Lies" is a solid retelling of Loki's mythology with commendable pacing and storytelling. However, prospective readers should be aware that the predominant flashback structure might impact their overall enjoyment, particularly if they were anticipating a more present-day-focused narrative. Whether or not to continue with the series may depend on individual preferences and expectations.

Truth and Other Lies is dripping with gorgeous prose and a strong understanding of mythology. It is wrapped up in a creative flare that takes what we know about Norse legends and bends those things masterfully to its will. Many of the deliberate changes are meant to update and engage a modern audience and set this book apart from other Loki retellings.
