I wanted to love this but it was eh for me. The magic and worldbuilding was very very good but I thought it left a lot of this unresolved and I was unexcited for most of the book. I will be reading the second one to see if it changes my mind like ACOMAF did.

This book was amazing! Highly recommend! It was my first real fantasy novel and I loved every second. The ending was just jaw dropping! I can’t wait for the second book to come out, I’m so sad I have to wait until October!

I can already see this review being a long one. Especially due to a certain demon prince I may ramble on about, so apologies in advance for the gushing.
The prologue kicks off with a story told to Emilia and Vitoria by their grandmother about their witch heritage and the magical amulets that are given to them. They are told that these amulets will protect them at all times from the clutches of the demon princes, mainly four who are the most deadly of all.

Deeply disappointed
Wrath was kinda saving the situation
I like the idea but I don’t think it was delivered well

I enjoyed this it's the first book in a trilogy and it's fantasy with witches and demons. This first book takes place in Sicily and it's narrated in such a way that it feels timeless and authentic with lots of food descriptions and atmospheric ambience.
The plot centres around Emilia a young witch who is a twin. She and her sister Vittoria have been raised in the knowledge that they have to stay safe flying under the radar and keeping their identity as witches hidden for fear of persecution. When her sister is murdered the latest victim in a string of witch killings where the heart is removed from the chest, Emilia usually the sensible twin wants nothing more than to find those responsible and she's prepared to go to steep lengths, putting her very life in danger to accomplish her goal.
This begins Emilia's descent into the kingdom of the wicked, the malvagi, the seven princes of hell and all that this entails. Summoning a demon prince and retracing Vittoria's steps lead Emilia into dangerous waters and now with the Prince of War, Wrath as an unlikely and reluctant ally she's determined to uncover the truth of her sister's demise.
This easily managed to keep my attention and I found this an easy well-written read. The romance part of this felt more of a subplot and this focuses more on Emilia finding out the truth but there was some delicious sexy tension between Wrath and Emilia building throughout this that had an enemies-to-lovers vibe.
It wasn't a full sweep, I did have some slight nitpicks but considering how much I enjoyed the rest of this they are on the small side. I felt that the time period this took place In wasn't majorly evident and this didn't feel that historical which disappointed me, also there were far too many food descriptions as well. I didn't dislike them as they did add to the whole atmosphere but there didn't need to be so many of them. I am incredibly excited to see where this goes next though especially with that ending.
