Mason reveals a complicated solution at the end of this one which makes it seem a bit farfetched; other than that it's an intriguing page-turner as usual.

For a change, Mason regrets taking a case and finds it an obstacle headache. We get plenty of courtroom back and forth with the judge clearly more on Mason's side, perhaps unrealistically so, but the bulk of the story is an investigative mess that is different from the others I've read. Recommended and unique.

I'm giving this a five star rating not for its literary merit, neither for its characters, nor for its plot. I'm giving it a five star rating for the pleasure that I felt while reading this plot dominated mystery, full of holes which invited me to poke my fingers through only to find them completely empty. The story is fast-paced and kept me on my toes, wondering what exactly happened to Dr. Babb on the night that he was attacked. Mason is charming, intelligent, and a strategist as always. In this tale, he even risks his own reputation and career so as to fight for his humanitarian and moral beliefs. But how much do these risks amount to for a lawyer who is perpetually five steps ahead in a game that others barely even know the rules to.
