I love me a good nineteenth century tale of adventure, and this was a mildly entertaining one, but the ending was a bit anticlimactic. Also, it bothers me how many 19th century tales include prowling hordes of "savage indians" and this one is no exception, though I have seen worse than this. Decent book, but wouldn't read it again.

This probably isn't fair, but I thought the recent Masterpiece series was way better. Phileas Fogg in the book is disappointing and one-dimensional, the cast of characters is sterile, the adventure was not much of an adventure, the cultural and religious commentary was horribly inappropriate (there was actually a note at the end of the audio apologizing for that) and the token female was a mere token. If I hadn't recently watched the series, I don't know how I would have judged the book, but I can't separate the two now, so I'm biased, unfortunately.

The audio, however, is amazing. This is my first experience with Jim Dale (because I haven't yet been able to get free access to the Harry Potter audiobooks) and I know now why he is so admired as an audiobook narrator. He was absolutely brilliant.
