It took me a while to publish this review. But I devoured this book. I read most of it during two long train trips which. In retrospect it was probably one of the best ways to enjoy the book.
I am glad I didn't know of the existence of the plot twist! It made it so much more enjoyable. And when that specific chapter ended explaining how Phileas arrived 5' too late, it hit me. The aha moment! The "ha, I bet he actually won the bet!". It made the ending and its tensions so much more enjoyable, knowing he actually won the bet, but might still lose on a technicality and sudden withdrawal that was so unlike his character.
The setup was great, humorous and Passepartout such a lovely character.
I would really recommend the book! Do your friends a favour and don't let them know about the twist if they've never heard of it though!

Some parts are definitely outdated, but it’s a classic. It’s always interesting to see a world before cars and the telephone.
