I had loved the old David Niven movie version as a child, and have been meaning to read some more 'classics', I hadn't been prepared for all the overt and causal racism and xenophobia since I hadn't picked up on it much in the movie as a child (the movie is a little bit better for it, but also... Kid, it was a pretty normalized view of things in an adventure movie to watch in the late 80's early 90's)

There is a strange charm to the whole thing and the relationships between the travelers, but I'm not keen on rereading/listening to Passepartout listen to a the history of Mormonism while on a train again that's for sure.

It is fun to compare the original text with all the adaptations that have come after.
