Wilde's oft-overlooked fairy tales are a poignant treasure—romantic, tragic, cynical, hopeful… Truly, you will find everything Wildean here: his satiric wit, his æsthetic temperament, his profound spirituality, and perhaps most of all, his exquisitely youthful imagination.

If you know me, you know I love Wilde. In fact, his wit, writing, humor, and being prone to dramatics establish him as one of my favorite authors. Most of the stories in this anthology enchanted me; others were unforgivably boring (ahem I'm looking at you, The Fisherman and His Soul.)

I bet Wilde is rolling in his grave because I called one of his stories boring. Oops.

Oscar Wilde is such a sassafrass that I enjoy pretty much anything he writes.

I had read one of Wilde's fairy tales, "The Selfish Giant", years ago and it piqued my interest. This collection ranges from childish, simple stories, to much more complex and dark tales.

My favorite part, however, was the afterward explaining how the tales reflected on what was currently happening in Wilde's life. It gave me a much greater appreciation for the collection as a whole.

Beautiful, tragic, and strange. These are well worth a read--as well as the afterword by Jack Zipes.

Oscar Wilde's talent for grandiose imagery that suck you in is everywhere in this compilation! These stories are from his two collections of fairy tales, and I really enjoyed the preface explaining their place in his writing career and personal life.
