Okay. I liked the premise, and found it really entertaining at parts. But I can't forgive how the author treated the narrator in the latter half of the book.
Maxwell (the narrator) is in a really bad place when she has her miscarriage after being sexually assaulted, and then her boyfriend turns all the other characters against her. Maybe I'm too sensitive, but it really felt like the author was framing all the other characters as justified in their treatment of Maxwell. She's made into a bad guy for things that have happened to her. As I understood it, she didn't even know she was pregnant, and was very unwell after the miscarriage. But because she didn't immediately tell her boyfriend, the father, he went around calling her vile names. And it feels like the writing frames this as entirely justified and not the absolute worst way to treat someone. It also feels like the author uses this as a way for Maxwell to have a character flaw, this choice to keep intensely private information to herself. Anyway, I'm not here for that.
