“If this was weakness, he wanted to be weak.”

  • Ugh she’s the absolute worst
  • Oohhh hehe
  • These two 🙄
  • Gideon, don’t you see?
  • These angry confessions hehe
  • Of course she is
  • Stop 😭😭
  • OOHHH
  • Oh, Rune…
  • This is crazy!
  • Oh dang, I shoulda seen that one coming!

Content: skip the spice chapter 71, plenty of innuendo throughout, infrequent but strong language, mild descriptions of torture and violence

This was an excellent continuation and conclusion to the story! It was fast paced, the tension was high and it was just really good!

Rune and Gideon forever, really 🫶 I loved their relationship! While it did feel a little rushed at times, I loved the high stakes and the passion they brought, not only to their relationship, but to everything!

There were a few twists I saw coming and a few that I definitely didn’t. And I enjoyed it all!

The politics of this book(and overal  duology)are all over the place when you think about it for more than 5 seconds. Gideon  is still a genocidal bigot who only saw witches as human after "courting" Rune. I couldn't care about half the characters after book 1, I was waiting for redemption for Gideon because idk how I feel about falling for the man you sees your kind as cockroaches.
and don't get me started on the vision Rune had when she was being chased. Yes, it's totally appropriate to ask if you want kids while being shot at. The vision also lowered the stakes of the book. It's so predictable she would mother Gideon's children.

Over all im giving the whole duology a 2.75....

unfortunately this didn't quite hit the mark for me but i still highly enjoyed it. i felt like the character development was solid but it needed to be more fleshed out, it felt like characters had changes of their heart on a whim and without much reasoning that left me feeling confused.

one of my least favorite tropes in books especially with young characters like rune and gideon who are supposed to be 18 and 20 respectively got married at the end. like yall are children why are you married?? just a pet peeve of mine for stories, i'm sick of that.

the plot was fun and even though i did guess every single plot "twist" i still enjoyed reading it all to see how things unfolded. it's a quick and fun read, the world is interesting and i liked the dynamics there. i wanted a little more depth to how the magic system worked but it's definitely a soft system with no real explanation, you just know it exists and works in a specific way and that's that.

Rune and Gideon and the whole enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers was such an emotional rollercoaster. And the ending was predictable but satisfying 🩷

This book was pretty good. It's a quick, light read.

I appreciated the LGBTQ representation!

I liked the unexpected development with Bart from the first book in the duology.

The plot was a bit predictable. I definitely seen the plot twists, before they came.

I enjoyed the romance more in the first book. I'm not sure if it was because the Crimson Moth was more active in her role as the witch saver and not held back by Cressida. It could have been the tension between Alex and Gideon pining over Rune, and Gideon's conflict of falling for his brother's true love.

Verity was so much cooler than Cressida. That plot twist was better!

I personally wish Rune couldn't be brought back to life. Seraphine being Wisdom AND being uncorruptible because of that, was a bit too cushiony. Everything just ended so perfect. The climax was a bit depleted from this. I mean don't get me wrong I can appreciate a happy ending, but sometimes I want the author to NOT give me what I want. This happy ending was too perfect and convenient.
