The first 17 sonnets all say the same thing. After that, things improve. My favorites are 71 and 130.
Nakonec jsem se s tou angličtinou poprala a nebylo to ani zas tak těžké
I have been slowly making my way through this for what seems like forever. I got really little out of it. Most of the time I didn't understand the poems and could not remember whether I had read a specific poem or not.
Of course, the sonnets benefit from multiple readings, reading aloud, and study. But I never felt inclined to do any of those things. Even when I occasionally read something online about what a sonnet should mean I was really underwhelmed.

Beautiful, breathtaking poetry. So many of these sonnets plucked my strings, spoke to me in soft and magical words. There's so much inside these 154 sonnets, and I won't pretend I've discovered half of what there is to discover in these works. I did enjoy them tremendously.

I really should re-read the sonnets, now that I'm a little more versed in poetry...

Still a favorite. <3
~~~~~~~
I read this book in preparation for our Shakespeare sonnet recitation, which is a requirement for one of my course subjects. My initial thoughts was that this was going to be an intimidating read because well... it's Shakespeare, and there are so many Old English terms which makes for a difficult reading, but I only felt giddiness, I didn't know I would enjoy reading Shakespeare this much! His words and thoughts are so beautiful; his passion for interweaving words overflow within the pages. I instantly fell in love with it dearly starting from the very first sonnet. I can definitely see myself reading this again someday.
This is the sonnet that resonates within me most and which moved me so much I was brought to tears!:
"I think good thoughts, whilst others write good words."
"CXXI"
'Tis better to be vile than vile esteem'd,
When not to be receives repproach of being;
And the just pleasure lost, which is so deem'd
Not by our feeling, but by others' seeing:
For why should others' false adulterate eyes
Give salutation to my sportive blood?
Or on my frailties why are frailer spies,
Which in their wills count bad what I think good?
No, I am that I am, and they that level
At my abuses reckon up their own:
I may be straight though they themselves be bevel;
By their rank thoughts, my deeds must not be shown;
Unless this general evil they maintain,
All men are bad and in their badness reign.
