WOW this was great. i love tillie walden so i was gonna read it regardless ... but when i learned it was a ZOMBIE story (from the walking dead)??? yep i was so excited and it was as good as expected. the powerful relationships of walden's stories combines beautifully with the stakes and tension of post apocalyptic zombie tales ... her drawings of the clouds, the snow, the wind and sun are astonishing.

i havent seen/played the walking dead, but clementine has some character parallels to ellie from the last of us part 2 — a teen who has basically only ever known life in the zombie world, and has lost a lot of people including caretaker(s) and now prefers to go it alone and not talk much. it's a great character archetype imo LOL,, and walden writes a surrounding cast that brings up some really compelling dynamics and insights. i LOVED every bit of this and cant wait for the second installment!!!

I have no rating for this book because I know nothing about the Walking Dead. I love all things Tillie Walden, though, and it was interesting to think of a post-apocalyptic world where teens are trying to survive zombies.

I have no experience with The Walking Dead show (or video game?) but I read this book as a possible title to purchase for our middle grade library and I was very impressed with the story. I do think it was easy enough to follow along for people unfamiliar with the franchise and I was invested in the plotline. This series would be a solid addition to any collection, especially for kids looking for a readalike for Stranger Things or The Last of Us.

I absolutely adore anything Tillie Walden creates! She could burp into a bag and I’d buy it and frame it on my bookshelf. With that being said I just don’t think I’m that into the walking dead.
