This book is good on its own. But if you’re like me and am coming from playing the games with Clementine I think the mischaracterization might bother you. in no situation would Clementine leave AJ. Yes she had become disabled and yes the grappling with that in this novel is amazing however Clem had spent the last 3+ years taking care of AJ. For her to ditch him at the school doesn’t make sense to me. It's also odd because at the end of the last game it's implied that shes not only happy at the school but also has a place there and is helping everyone still. Also in game she makes close friends and has love interests at the school. However, the grappling Clementine has with her becoming disabled and how to manage that between what’s good for her body and her pride is done well. I like the new characters and the environment and stressors are interesting. If you think of this Clementine as separate from the games Clem then its much easier to get into. When everything is said and done I ended up rating it lower because the mischaraterization bugged me.

I didn’t realize this was a continuation of the story of characters from The Walking Dead. I thought it was just a story set in the same universe. I’ve never watched The Walking Dead, but this was still pretty fun even if I was missing a bunch of lore
although i agree with everyone that clem,in the games would never leave AJ, i think this is a really cool sort of alternate ending that feels really plausible! AJ would be safe at the school even without her and it makes sense that clem would still struggle with all this stuff! FUN TO ME

Telltale's The Walking Dead Game has such a soft spot in my heart as a game from my formative teen years. I absolutely adore anything that has to do with Clementine (and Lee, although his main story is over) and I'm delighted that Tillie Walden, author of On a Sunbeam and other novels I've enjoyed, took a crack at expanding the story past the games. She did such a great job of portraying Clementine's character as harden and independent but struggling from isolation over years and encounters. And the black & white pages are beautiful and really set the moody tone. I enjoyed the new story, characters, and it staying true to TWD nature (tragedies, betrayals, walkers always pulling shit, etc) while developing under Walden's voice. Excited to read up on the next book and hoping Clem can finally feel close to another person again (in a gay way).

I appreciate that the dialogues and characters feel right out of a Walking Dead Telltale game! And the black and white art style was interesting - set the tense tone very well! :0
I think my only thing is with the video games, you spend HOURS with these characters and grow to love them. With this graphic novel, I spent 30 minutes with them and like don't get me wrong I was gobSMACKED with the tense drama and trying to survive the winter in a mountain, but I still didn't connect with the newer characters as much. Maybe I will in the next few books!
Also wish AJ was brought up more like we only see him once in a flashback?? Like he's basically Clem's ONLY family how come she's only thinking about Lee?? Shout out Lee--love him--but why did Clem leave AJ and her friends I don't understand that? ;-;
Alsoshout out their little kitten in the end omg I love that SOMETHING good came from their adventure <33

This book is the bigegst character assasination I have ever seen. for people that don't know, Clementine is a character from the walkinmg dead game series made by Telltale. For some reason Skybound decided to continue her story and ruin her character completely. I don't want to spoil the games since they are amazing, in my opinion, but let's just say that she has an amazing story in each agme and her overal growth as a character in all the games is amazing. This book ruins all of that. I perosnally believe that this author doesn't understand Clementine in the slightest and in my opinion she completey mischaracterised her in this book.
