Maggie Stiefvater

3.79 AVERAGE

I find Maggie Stiefvater to be a very clever writer and there were lots of bits I really liked, but overall, it wasn't my favorite.

This book gave a nice conclusion to Isabel and Cole, but it lost a lot of the magic of the initial trilogy. There was a lack of the beautiful prose and insight that Mercy Falls and Sam and Grace brought to the story. The melodrama and angst was a bit too much for me at times, but I usually don’t have patience for that type of book. Still was a fun read because Stiefvater is Stiefvater.

Sinner was just so beautifully heartbreaking. The entire book was so bittersweet, and the way Stiefvater brought Cole and Isabel to life was simply incredible; I found myself smiling whenever I read a line that sounded so much like them, which was rather often. If Grace and Sam are good people, then Cole and Isabel are absolutely terrible people, yet they're the perfect fit for each other--they make each other better. The ending brought tears to my eyes--it was the only way to end the book, really. Stiefvater's writing is gorgeous, as usual, which gives me the urge to steal it, and Sam and Grace make random, brief appearances.

Giving this one a 2.5...and that's being generous. I just wasn't feeling it. The series as a whole was MEH. I started this series shortly after I finished the Raven Boys series and was totally in love. So after finishing Sinner I have to say it left me feeling well, not a whole lot. Maybe because I was rushing through it just to be done but at times it was hard to follow. The mood swings of both MC was a bit much and how they came to decide they were in love was just not really believable after all the arguing and "trying not to fall for each other".

I know this is a piss poor review but the book just left me lacking with any kind of feels. I can't even say I hated it or disliked it. It just left me with nothing. Sorry Maggie but this is not one I'm going to be recommending.
