The premise was interesting but it was all over the place, taking too long to get to the point. The climax was kind of meh and then the unraveling around it was kind of lame. It was so difficult to engage in this book.

I was quite liking this until towards the end when it really went off the rails. And I totally guessed ahead that the BBC recording about the UK being nuked was a fake.

With the world on the brink of disaster, a small survey team sets out to prove that a huge piece of Antarctic ice is about to break away. However disaster falls upon disaster and Rachel finds herself marooned in a survival pod listening to an announcement of nuclear war. She is desperate having left her husband and young child at home in London. Her pod explodes and so she has to try to find safety in an Antarctic storm. When she runs out of food she is relieved to see one of her team coming to her rescue - but is this for real?
Whilst finding most of this book absolutely preposterous, I also found myself enjoying it immensely. The action jumps from one set piece to another but there are some quite philosophical interludes about superpowers exploiting natural resources and also about the power of love. All of this makes it a superior thriller
