4 out of 5 stars – A Chilling Thriller
Whiteout by R. S. Burnett is a fast-paced, atmospheric thriller that pulls you into its icy grip and doesn’t let go. The setting is as much a character as any of the humans harsh, unforgiving, and beautifully described. Burnett does an excellent job of building tension, layering the mystery with just enough clues to keep you guessing.
The characters are complex and well-drawn, especially the lead character Rachel who navigates both the treacherous terrain and the secrets buried beneath the snow. There were a few moments where the pacing dipped slightly or where I wanted a bit more depth, but overall the story delivered.
If you're into survival thrillers with a sharp edge and a haunting sense of place, Whiteout is well worth the read.

The chapters about surviving alone in Antarctica are interesting, but the heroine's relationship with her husband is unconvincing, the baddie is too easy to spot, the escapes are ridiculous and the twist is entirely predictable.

This was okay I guess. Easy to read even if there was a frustrating amount of repetition in the prose. And unfortunately I spotted the twist a mile off. But you know, at least the setting of Antarctica and the threat of global meltdown added a bit of spice!

Interesting premise but her survival in those conditions felt so unrealistic like she had nine lives

I really liked this, but I’m also a sucker for cold weather thrillers and post-apocalyptic books.
