Hear me out....! it's a really good book, this write is god gifted. The only thing I didn't like that much is LGBTQIA. Yes I no it's his own life story and I really didn't have any problem with writer . The thing is I don't support LGBTQIA but that doesn't mean I hate them. But yeah don't hesitate after seeing my review and highly recommend to read this book it will be really good thing to consume 🙂✨

con nhá»› mẹ không? I miss you more than I remember you.

i expected to read a story solely about little dog's relationship with his mom and his grandmother, but was kind of sad to find out that it wasnt the main focus of this book. though i still enjoyed it (the story is written in such beautiful prose), i wanted to read more about his familial relationships and ties to vietnam (i felt like a lot of parts that included his mom got glossed over a bit too often). regardless, there are parts that i still find myself tearing up to when i read it. ocean vuong writes with a sorrow so deep and eminent its hard to tear yourself away.

I DNF'ed this book the first time I began to read it. It is a heavy and convoluted read that I found hard to get into at first. I picked it up again months later and though it was still a slow read, it was truly beautiful. Words can't express the heartache I felt reading this epistolary. Vuong's writing, while a bit confusing and complex at times, is otherworldly. His use of ongoing metaphors and symbols throughout the book are some of the best I've ever read. There are so many quotes that tug at my heartstrings, and so many lines that are poetry at its finest mastery. The story is a genuine and heartbreaking depiction of so many heavy topics such as being an immigrant, the generational trauma stemming from the Vietnam War, homophobia, sexuality, etc. Vuong explores these topics beautifully, with such great attention to language. I truly applaud his writing style

while the plot was good and the writing was lush and poetic, i did not realize there were such graphic depictions of sex and abuse. I do not think anyone really talks about this and it was a little startling. please check the trigger warnings!!!!
