3.5. Very clever twist. Maybe it’s because I lived through the pandemic — future generations may appreciate this more as a historical novel — but I was drained reading much of the second half of the book. A little too drawn out for my taste. My first Jodi Picoult book. I look forward to sampling some more.

I almost put this book down because there were so many plot holes in the beginning. Turns out, that's by design and part of the overall story. So, keep going - it all becomes clear.

The story is about the pandemic but I'd say it handles it honestly and in a non-traumatic manner.

I really liked some aspects of this book but I disliked the main character sooo much. The twist in this book just didn’t work for me. I don’t think that is an element that I ever really like in a book though. The main character’s back in fourth inner dialogue got repetitive.

I enjoyed this book, though I found it predictable.
First read with the mention of COVID
Nice easy read and a bit different from her usual stories

Jodi Picoult is one of my fav authors if not my absolute fav. There’s something so reliable about her books and the way they’re all-consuming and leave me thinking about them for days! With that being said… this one will leave me thinking about it but because it left me unsatisfied. No spoilers here, but there’s a big twist in the story that left some ends left open, some gaps in the plot. but then again! the book talks a lot about COVID which of course has many unknowns so maybe that feeling was Picoult’s intent? Hard to say. TLDR: I recommend this book simply bc I am loyal to Jodi Picoult but if you’re new to her and going to start with one of her books, this wouldn’t be my top rec to get you hooked on her writing.

side note: in the author’s note it said she wrote this book in record timing and i know she wrote it during a PANDEMIC and I think that is so impressive. she was writing up a storm while the rest of us were baking too much bread.
