My opinions on this one are VERY similar to the first book. Not my normal genre and I’m not a fan of series, but was gifted the first two books by a friend so decided to give it a try! For these books not being what I normally enjoy, I can say that they were entertaining, had twists and turns, and left you on a cliffhanger needing to know more. I will definitely be reading the final book in the trilogy, because I’m desperate to know how this all ends (hence why I’m not a series person, I have no patience)!

I did enjoy this, but some parts of it were a little too smutty for my personal tastes. Apart from that, it was a good read.

I enjoyed this book wayy more than the first. I found Ciara to be a much more compelling and loveable character than Niamh.
The ending was soo good!
sad about Milo tho :(

After reading HMRC last month, I was so excited to read The Shadow Cabinet quickly afterwards and I have had such a great time with it. I am now a huge Juno Dawson fan and I have fallen in love with her writing. Both books have been super compelling and have got under my skin to the point where once I start, I cannot stop.

The Shadow Cabinet was definitely the more dramatic of the two books and I thought that it had a different vibe from HMRC. I had a darker feeling throughout reading and there was a lot more tension within the plot and I was living for both. The one thing I did miss a little in this book was the witty one liners that had me laughing out loud in the first book. It didn't mean that I enjoyed this book any less, but it was something that I really did love from HMRC.

After only two books, I have formed a connection with these characters so it felt comforting to be back with them. I really enjoyed Elle's character arc in this one. She was forced to embrace her witchiness a lot more (whether by choice or not) and I think that that brought out her inner human strength. I didn't at all miss Helena, however there were plenty more characters for me to love to hate.

As expected, it didn't take me long to get through this book. It read really quickly and the fast pace made it impossible to put down. The cliffhanger at the end of this story still has my jaw dropped and I don't quite know how I'm going to be able to wait for the next book in this series (and with no planned published date!). Will be scratching the itch by reading the prequel soon.
