I love gymnastics and figure skating and will wait forever beneath the table of the Publishing World to collect whatever literary scraps that have anything to do with these two sports they will deign to toss my way. One thing I've found in my reading journey is that too many adult novels that contain these sports use them as framing devices to explore other topics, and the world of the sport itself is almost an afterthought. WINTERLAND manages to weave several narratives and give a fleshed-out view of life in the Soviet Union in the 1970s for several different characters while still writing a compelling sports story.
Moderate: Eating disorder, Death of parent, and Sexual assault
