A fun to read short story about placing all pieces of the puzzle on the board and watching everything fall into place. It's a little play on destiny, everything is already written and now its up to us to watch how it unfolds, as nothing is going to change the outcome now that everyone has done their part in (so to speak) winding up the pieces and watching everything as it unfolds as a result to that.

The plot was very interesting and when you start the story you have no idea it will end the way it does. There are a few lessons in the book - putting hard work into something often reaps rewards whereas the opposite can end badly, as well as your choices all have consequences.
A very interesting read.

“For every once upon a time there must be a story to follow, because if a story doesn't, something else will, and it might not be as harmless as a story.”

I was ALL about this book. It's twenty kinds of strange and awkward and I loved every minute of it. Recommended for fans of dark fairy tales as it draws inspiration from there while being fully its own beast. (Student book club)

Such a lovely little tale, cleverly written with lots of wordplays on clockwork and time. I loved the dark atmosphere, it was old-fashioned and deliciously creepy. The narrator managed to lighten the mood with ironic remarks though. There are 2 stories that run together in the middle and I loved how that was done. Plus, it's set in Germany and all the characters have German names (which the narrator pronounced pretty well). Totally recommended as a quick, dark fairytale read or listen.
