Sweet and romantic. Very candid and body-positive too. I appreciated the darker subjects surrounding the main characters and how they dealt with and learned from them.

Wow, ok. I feel some type of way about this one. I went very much out on a limb to read this, because fitness is the main theme and I have a very disordered relationship with movement. (The author has a lovely note at the beginning that covers all of the content warnings and her journey behind writing this story, which I just loved and appreciated.) Following Britta's fitness journey, and tangentially, her romance, was so impactful for me personally. It made me deeply uncomfortable at times, I will not lie. Thats a me thing, not a book thing, though. To see a fat woman come to enjoy movement for movement's sake, and to embrace the personal growth and learning that comes with building strength for herself and herself alone, was beautiful. Also I fancast Nicole Byer and Wes and I am not sorry.

An overall easy read, the writing was easy and not too waffle-ly. Great discussion on body, body image/weight, as well as life goals.

This was a cute read. Britta is a full and complete character. She has goals and ambitions and doesn’t throw those things away for a pretty man. She also has her shortcomings and insecurities and everything is explored. Wes is a guy who’s had a some difficulty in life, has had his heart broken and is still trying to figure what he wants in life despite being a CEO of a successful fitness company. Denise gives us two full and complete people to follow along and she gives us 8 months to explore this love story instead of a few rushed days/weeks which can sometimes break my immersion in a story. This is a lovely story about finding yourself, loving yourself as you are, doing what makes you happy, and surrounding yourself with people who love you and make you happy but also push you to be your best you.

While this book is categorized as romance, personally that was the secondary theme because the fitness and personal discovery journey we follow Britta on was the strongest theme. The vulnerability and depth of Britta's character were so amazing to read and I related to some of the struggles she talked about. Wes was a true cinnamon roll of a man and I loved his support of Britta. There were some challenging topics in this book but Denise Williams did a really thoughtful job of addressing them which I greatly appreciated. Add in some sweet & spicy moments and it was such an enjoyable read. Both Britta and Wes hold back on things about their lives which was understandable in some ways but in others, it wasn't quite as believable that they wouldn't have figured stuff out and there were some slow parts that made it a solid 4 read for me. Would still absolutely recommend it!

I was SO happy that Wes showed up to her race but didn't insert himself into it and reminded her that she was fully capable of finishing herself. That felt like a really important moment.
