I thought each character was so interesting, I loved being in their heads/worlds for such small snippets. I think I went into the story thinking it would be an overarching plot, but it felt more slice of life, which i appreciated in short form (almost short-story setting).
Going into this I was expecting a darker and more depressing story but this was really engagingly written and there were some heartwarming moments of friendship between the main characters. This wasn't an extremely plot-driven, but still a page-turner because of the writing style. Each character had depth, even minor ones, and while a lot of the mystery of their backstories was revealed over the course of the book, there was enough left to the imagination to keep you thinking after the story was finished.

I really appreciated how this explored Korean culture and how it treats women. It looked at sexism, beauty standards, sex work, motherhood, etc. However I prefer a story with more plot, so this wasn't my favorite.

good concept, POOR execution. so many plot holes. i normally don’t even pay attention to those sort of things but they were glaringly obvious. how are you going to turn psychotic in 1 day, unleash violence on some girl, and then never mention her ever again? it makes no sense.
all of the girls blended in together. while their situations differed, they had the same personality (unhinged and unhealed). they lacked individualism. and the sad part is, not everyone was even necessary to the plot (which was convoluted). if the story is about beauty and surgery, then it failed by having perspectives from ara, wonna, and miho. none of these girls really contributed to the themes discussed in the book.
the only valid people were kyuri (who was also bland, but at least contributed to the purpose) and sujin. but sujin didn’t even have her own POV chapters, so that was a complete waste.
i’m so disappointed—with the writing, plot, execution, characters. everything. some books i strongly dislike but can still see why they would still appeal to others. but THIS one??? i don’t understand why people like it.
i have so many more negative things to say about this book, but i will hold my peace. i should have dnfd but like i said, i couldn’t find another book to read instead

Such an interesting read on Korean society (with a focus on beauty standards, sexism, misogyny, class system etc) but also it focuses on female friendships in a society that continuously denies them the same chances as men. These flawed and disadvantaged women help each other in the best way they can within their circle of influence. I would have preferred though to read more of Sujin instead of Wonna who seemed quite removed in terms of story telling / character development from the other women. Also I wished it would have been longer because it could only touch so much on all those extensive society topics in 280+ pages, a little more depth and finished story lines would have been nice.
i loved reading a book that partially takes place in cheongju! I think this is a good reflection on women's lives in korea, the economic struggles of the younger generation, the sex industry, and plastic surgery industry. I feel like some characters were more fleshed out than others and I wanted more details about the defining moments in their lives.
