What a way to end the trilogy god I’m so emotionally attached. It’s still YA fiction but it’s GOOD YA fiction.

A very satisfying conclusion to this series. The characters were complex and interesting. I thought the handling of the traumas of war, sexual violence, and injury/disability were well done and gripping. 

I wish there had been a tiny bit more flushing out of the characters seeking forgiveness for some of the actions taken in the 2nd book. But overall, very good and satisfying!

LEIWREN DIARIES ARE OVER😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I AM SO SAD😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 before i get into this let me just say. i loved the ending and it felt very fitting for the story BUT LIKE THERE WAS NOT CONCRETE LEIWREN CLOSURE LIKE NO WEDDING AND THEY’RE STILL IN LIKE DIFFERENT PLACES UGH I JUST NEED THEM TO BE TOGETHER FOREVER😭😭😭😭😭😭 okay. wow. incredible final book in a trilogy. i laughed. i cried. i got very angry. i got very happy. i don’t even know where to start??? for most of this trilogy ive been playing nettles while reading it. and leiwren being separated in this book blew my mind at the incredibly perfect music choice i made because for like 60% of the book wren was LITERALLY preparing to fight a war and lei was LITERALLY missing. and they’re LITERALLY half of each other. i’m still listening as im writing this and i just have to keep taking pauses because leiwren has literally wrecked me and i can’t stop thinking about them holy shit. i love how the first book was just lei’s pov, the second was mainly lei’s and a few other people’s sprinkled in there (but never the king’s. i loved that so much like he doesn’t get to share his thoughts with us.), and the third lei’s and wren’s😭😭😭😭🫶🫶🫶🫶 we finally got wren’s pov😭😭😭😭😭🫶🫶🫶🫶 i think i end this series with her being my favorite character. i’d say it goes wren, lei very closely behind, nitta, maybe lei’s dad and tien? and my baby lill. like idc they’ve all never done anything wrong in their lives. chenna would be up there but im only counting alive characters NOOOOOO CHENNA😭😭😭😭😭 Way too many people died in this book. chenna. mistress azami. merrin. shifu caen. mistress eira. nor. kiroku. probably more that i’m missing ugh just so many people😭😭😭😭😭 and ketai… he had to die. it was a president coin president snow situation. he was only “better” because the current situation was so bad. people who want to be in positions of power should never be in positions of power. so i’m glad with how it ended up in the end in terms of the council and everything. but let’s go back to the beginning. starting with lei. my beautiful girl lei wow she was just perfect in this book i love her so much absolutely incredible main character. her and wren being apart made me want to die but it’s okay everything was fine in the end🤗 but im glad they had that time apart to realize how much they truly love and need each other and want to be with each other (omg who does that sound like… cough markgemma cough🤭). and lei having all the allies in the palace was so fun. and when the paper girls family reunited like yes😭😭😭😭😭 i do have to say. i am just not a huge fan of aoki even after the ending. yes she was a victim like all of them and she was manipulated but i mean all the other girls were able to put lei above the king and i just don’t understand how aoki was so brainwashed that she hated lei… so that’s why im glad lei had chenna😁 lei is like Way too forgiving imo. i mean that’s so angel princess about her but her constantly trying to get aoki to be friends with her again when aoki just hurt her every time like Ugh. but i loved mistress azami helping lei that was so fun. but oh my fucking god. lei spent WAY too fucking much time with the king in this book. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO HER FREE MY GIRL😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 the king using her for his propaganda welcome back peeta mellark… at least he was so scared of her that he didn’t try to touch her again thank god. personally idgaf about aoki’s hand small price to pay for killing the king right there! and lei choosing to not escape when she could’ve oh my selfless angel she’s like the most perfect girl in the world😭😭😭😭😭 and the fucking scene when all the girls were brought to that thing for lei and the king and i was like oh he’s gonna kill them and of course he was gonna kill them and AOKI JUST SAT THERE like yeah i know trauma BUT CHENNA HAD TO DIE OVER AOKI. LIKE COME ONNNNNNN. i loved lei and chenna both being on the same side and talking about the war☹️ and blue’s father goodness gracious i knew he was bad but THAT was crazy like yeah i get why she is the way she is. and mistress azami saving lei and the girls but getting killed💔 BUT LEI KILLING MADAM HIMURA LIKE FUCK YEAH. FINALLY. lei and wren killing all the bad people was just so satisfying LIKE YES DO IT AGAIN😁 and then the girls finally escaping to KENZO😭😭😭🫶🫶🫶 im so happy he ended alive. and then after that is the leiwren reunion so now. let’s go to wren. lova being there pissed me off but i grew to like her as long as she wasn’t trying to actively homewreck leiwren like dpmo… and when merrin came back with NITTA💔 i love nitta so much. she lost her brother. and then in the end she lost her brother’s lover. and she lost mobility in her bottom half. and she still laughs😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 my baby nitta😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 but honestly there’s a lot i just do not remember from wren’s povs. i remember getting to one and being like thank god because the lei povs were so stressful😭😭😭😭 but ketai. Ugh. ooh but lei’s dad and tien thank god they were there😭😭😭 and wren wanting so badly to go save lei especially when she learned lei was with the king but she just couldn’t until she just went and did it like my girl. OH and of course the whole battle with the white wing and qanna and all that and wren confronting what she did… and wren going to the sanctuary and learning about her roots my girl😭😭😭😭😭😭 and the sickness and the magic and the shamans god this book just had so much. but let’s just fast forward to leiwren reunion. LEIWREN REUNION😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 im so happy it didn’t take like 80% of the book for them to reunite. but oh here is where my stomach starts hurting and i just get Mad. like okay they reunited they’re together and then Ketai. Fucking. Ketai. literally made me feel SICK when he said that lei should sacrifice herself for wren. i’m glad wren almost killed him right there. she totally should’ve killed him. and i was so scared lei was gonna do it and pull an insurgent tris prior but she told wren she wouldn’t so i was like yes lei value your life! and then. lei pov. she goes to ketai. and i go ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY NOT. WE ARE NOT DOING THIS. WE ARE NOT PULLING A MALINA WHERE WREN DOESNT EVEN KNOW YOURE SACRIFICING YOURSELF. but of course. i’ll do it. NO YOU WONT. and thank god she didn’t but still (oh my god the lights just flickered there’s a storm out there PERFECT REPRESENTATION OF HOW I FEEL WRITING ABOUT THIS). that whole time when lei thought she was gonna sacrifice herself i was just sick to my stomach writing I HATE THIS BOOK I HATE THIS BOOK I HATE THIS BOOK every time she thought about that. when she thought about not getting to say goodbye to her dad and tien im like no absolutely not this is SO BAD. and then of course. well they got interrupted but leiwren added to the romajuliette malina judecardan hall of fame of the sex scene before final battle where at least one person almost dies. i just don’t even wanna think about all that like UGH IT JUST HURTS MY HEART. and then lei almost killing herself thank GOD she didn’t actually do it. and wren losing her mind before finding out lei’s alive. AND THEN THEM BEING OKAY AND HAPPY AND ALIVE AND FIGHTING TOGETHER AND GOING TO KILL THE KING YIPPEEEEEEE😭😭😭😭😭 AND THEM FINDING DARYA AND LILL AND LEI AND LILL REUNITING GOD I LOVE LILL oh my god i love lill like i love alisa montagova. MY NEWBORN BABY DEERS😭😭😭😭😭😭🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶 LEIWREN FUCKING FINALLY KILLING NAJA. I CHEERED. EVERYONE CHEERED. THE BITCH IS DEAD😭😭😭😭😭😭 and then the king capturing nitta and merrin and wren… and the king killing merrin and ketai before the rest of their forces could break through… BUT THEN WREN INJURING THE KING SO WELL THAT WHEN LEI GOT THERE. she could take her time. he was powerless. she had all the power. and she finally drove that knife in and killed him. for good. she was free. THEY WERE ALL FREE😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 lei wren and blue watching the king burn is sooooooo genyazoyalina at the darkling’s funeral (wren is genya blue is zoya lej is alina) oh i love when my girls get to watch their abuser burn forever. and then. the falling action and resolution. rebuilding the kingdom. getting together a new council. people getting closure. i am so so happy that all the girls including lill and the queen got to go to lei’s house with her dad and tien and everything is happy and they’re all okay and god i love happy endings😭😭😭😭😭 and leiwren. them finally talking about everything and lei telling wren she’s already forgiven her my baby girls i just love them so much they deserve everything😭😭😭😭😭😭 i do wish they were able to get the romajuliette malina ending of faking their deaths and living in the countryside. instead they basically got the shadow and bone show ending when alina actually stayed to rule the kingdom and mal left. aka my nightmare ending. i’m so mad about that😭😭😭😭😭 like i get wren wants to help restore everything but im sad we never got a concrete ending of leiwren in the same place settled down together forever💔 but other than that. just a wonderfully perfect book. book ships leiwren might be top 10… definitely top 15… and sapphic ships im thinking top 5. like i genuinely could not have asked for more from them throughout this trilogy. no slowburn in sight they kissed multiple times in the first book and got together and i mean the whole trilogy was their love story. we saw their pining stage, then finally happy together, then angst, then separation where they realize how much they need each other, then reunion, then endgame😭😭😭😭😭 like they are truly so special to me we got countless kisses and sex scenes and when the only other sapphic fantasies ive read have been slowburns with like two kisses total. leiwren means the world to me and they will be kept in a very special place in my heart. and even besides the beautiful love story i just love the whole point of this story. first the whole girls surviving and fighting and ending their evil abusers in different ways. killing all the bad people in the most satisfying ways. and the complex conflicting nature of war. if the ends justify the means. that was SO well explored with leiwren as lei grappled with what wren did that while it helped them, it was also terrible. and if it was worth it. and at the end when wren and nitta are talking and they just lay out the plain truth of ketai handing wren over to get raped for his ends of killing the king. like he thought he did what he had to do to save the country, but is it worth it with the way he did it? wren may have killed people for that same reason, but she always felt guilty about it. ketai never felt guilty about anything he did. he wasn’t even sorry about trying to get lei to sacrifice herself for wren. and that’s why he needed to die! but i truly love all the complexities in this book and this series. 18273747184858373/10. im so glad i finally read this and i hope everyone reads it because its just so incredible. leiwren forever😭😭😭😭😭🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶

Girls of Fate and Fury might be the best book of this trilogy, a worthy ending for this fantastic series.
This series touches upon a lot of heavy subjects that many fantasy books, specially YA, shy away from. But Natasha Ngan tackles everything with so much care and love, the way she writes about survivors is truly phenomenal, how much she cares about victims is palpable. I hope she continues to approach these subjects in her next works.
ALSOOO we finally got a Wren POV and that added so much to the story. However feel robbed i really wanted a wedding epilogue!
