What a luscious and sparkling translation! After the introduction, which was so accessible and made excellent points on the language of translations, and generally added to my understanding and enjoyment of the story, I had geared myself up for a difficult and tenuous read. But I was surprised by how beautifully simple the language used was. I have read very few ancient texts, so this interpretation is one I would absolutely recommend to beginners like me. In the poem itself, I was surprised by its domesticity, and the fact that half of it take place
upon his return to Ithaca!

Personally, this is my favorite translation of the Odyssey I've ever read! Very good, would recommend. It's not the best classic I've ever read, but c'mon it's thousands of years old, cut it some slack.

I also think there's something really magical about reading a story that's lasted throughout the public consciousness this long. It's such a human story, and I loved reading it to see how little humanity has truly changed. It's like we're all running the same race without learning anything from the last lap.

Its a good story, but, there are SO MANY REPETITIVE WORDS (yes, I know it's an "Epic poem") but, good grief! It's a plethora  of redundancy, for a story that I personally would have enjoyed; in a more stripped down, less poetic telling.
