The story is a bit familiar... Themes of another trilogy we may have read. However, it read well and kept me captivated. Looking forward to the film, and starting Insurgent today.

Amazing. Incredible. I can't say too much, because this series is too emotional.

A solid four star read. How did I not read this when I was fourteen like every single other kid my age?!
I was definitely a Hunger Games fan, but Lord knows why I never picked this series up, it was definitely something I'd have enjoyed in my early teens during school. If you like The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner etc, then you'll like this one.

Again, another easy to read digestible writing style that I rather enjoyed. Veronica is an author I have never read from before, nor do I know what other books she has actually written and published apart from this beloved series, but I do intend to read Allegiant and Insurgent at some stage, maybe later this year.

I definitely had a fun time diving into this one with Pierre (@Pierrereads) on a whim, this was most definitely an impulse read and I have to say, I'm glad I decided to start and finish it and make a start on this series before I just never picked it up.
As I said, the writing style I loved and found myself gobbling this up rather quickly, and it didn't feel like an almost 500 page book, I'd have said 350 at max.
The characters definitely had some depth to them that I'm intrigued to discover more about in the coming books. Four was definitely interesting to me and I like the reason behind his name because it's not the reason I expected. He was definitely dark and almost kept to himself and didn't give much away.
Tris was a little boring but she was 16 and had never done anything like the tests before so I can't say I'd have acted any differently.
Eric was a total dick of course and I didn't like him lol. That goes for Al and Peter too, with Christina being one of my favourites.

Plot wise I think this moved at a rather fast pace and it kept me interested for the most part. There were definitely times where I found it a little slow and lost a little focus.

Overall I'm glad I finally read this and started the series and can't wait to continue.

It is a great example of world building and allowing your main character to have flaws. However, action comes at you like a bullet and I craved more slow, thoughtful dialogue.

I really enjoyed this book and found it hard to put down! I love dystopian society books, and this is one of the better ones. I would probably give it 4 1/2 stars, but without the ability to give it a half star, I chose to go with 5 stars.

I love it when an author can come up with a new twist on a post-apocalyptic world. I have heard some say it is similar to Hunger Games, but I would disagree. The only similarities are that it is set in a post-apocalyptic United States and focuses on teens. I enjoyed the idea of the five factions. My only wish would have been to know more about the workings of each faction.

I am looking forward to reading Insurgent!

I bought Divergent almost two years ago when I had the chance to meet Veronica Roth, but I never took the time to read the book. Since its publication, I’ve heard a lot of things about Divergent and especially more now that the movie and all three books have been released. I have heard good and bad. Fortunately, I really enjoyed Divergent.

I loved the concept of the factions. I thought they were really interesting. The idea of focusing on one virtue seems worthy, yet as characters point out, it can’t work. The bad creeps in. And, why can’t society be based on all of the above and not just in groups? Balance is the key in my opinion and that’s, of course, why this society is dystopian.

As I read Divergent, I kept thinking about what faction I’d choose to be in. I know I wouldn’t be in Candor, Erudite, or Abnegation. And, Dauntless seems awesome because I’m quite the thrill seeker. But, I don’t think I’d survive all the fighting. Honestly, I think Amity would be my best fit. But, because the factions are so separate, I only had a small glimpse of Amity so I’m not positive.

I really liked the characters, especially Tris and Four. I think being in Tris’s shoes would be hard. I think being in any of the initiates’ shoes would be. You’re brought up one way and expected to either stay in that way of life or choose another one that you have no knowledge of. The choice seems impossible because you can’t go back from it. Tris showed the reader that feeling well and Four showed the reader what it was like to overcome those feelings yet stay true to yourself.

I really liked the buildup to the climax. I liked that we got to know the characters and the world before the antagonists truly revealed themselves. If that action had shown up sooner, I think the story would’ve been confusing and the emotional connection to the characters wouldn’t have been there.

I look forward to reading the other two books. Yet, I’m a bit apprehensive as well because I’ve heard that so many people are unhappy with the way the series ended.
