"In shallow pool, the scale is found. But only those bound two as one, can have the dragons's gift."

This is a cute, fast-paced and steamy retelling of Peter Pan, though it mainly focuses on Tinker Bell and Captain Hook. The atmosphere and setting feel true to the original source material, but the book adds a refreshing romance angle involving an enemies-to-lovers equation.

The chemistry between the two main characters is really fitting and almost tangible, but I do wish that said chemistry was built upon more in the beginning. While I think the smut is well-written, the intense romance needs more justification beyond the established physical attraction consistently permeating the plot.

I would still recommend this, especially if you enjoy fairy-tale retellings with a heavy romance element. Its enchanting world-building is a treat to read, especially in the first half of the novel. But it might not be for you if you prefer slow-burn, "realistic" romance.

As with any "retelling" or "twist" of a classic tale, this book was challenged to balance the scales between the familiarity of the original and adding something new to make itself worth reading, and I think it does so admirably. Characters have new depths, desires, and personality traits while still being identifiable in a heart beat, and the settings and their inhabitants serve as easy nods to Peter Pan.
While many of the twists and turns of the plot were predictable, they were fun to read anyway, and others still managed to shock me, making this high seas adventure one I couldn't put down. I didn't expect the book to reinvent the wheel, by any means, so I came out pleasantly surprised and happily entertained.
One of the biggest things I never expected was the ending, which turned a twist into a prequel to the classic story.

Amount of spice: 🔥🔥
Explicitness: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Setting: Neverland

My thoughts
I had no idea how absolutely magical this book would be. I thought it would be fun but it was so much more - I was transported to Neverland and ate that shit up which really says a lot because I am not a Disney fan. A lot of the 'adult' books I've read lately have felt very YA and I have not been enjoying it, so this was a refreshing change of pace because the characters felt adult and the writing was slightly more sophisticated.

Characters:
The characters were all so lovable and I was obsessed with Tink from the get go. Hook was also an interesting character but I felt like in comparison to Tink he did fall a little flat. His story was well fleshed out however, and his past was an emotional one - also
reading the scene where Blackbeard burns the Jolly Roger had my heart breaking for him.

Supporting Characters
There were some fantastic supporting characters in this novel. Smee was a lot of fun and I loved the found family vibes.

The Romance:
The romance was very sweet, a little too insta-lust which would normally be an automatic DNF for me but for some reason I was hooked and couldn't put it down. It was a little predictable but Hook was swoon-worthy and the spice was so well done which makes up for a lot.

Plot:
In terms of plot, this was the most invested in a plot I have been in a long time. Usually, I enjoy very character driven books and if the plot takes a back seat that doesn't normally bother me but the plot in this novel reeled me in and kept me hooked. This was beautifully written and so unbelievably magical.
