nickabockaglory's review against another edition
3.5
This was a random choice of read for me and I picked it because it popped up as a popular book on Libby.
I enjoyed the basis of the story. I always enjoy hearing true accounts of other people's lives. I felt the start was a little confusing and it may have made more sense being chronological without the first part about them being on the edge of a cliff (I still don't know where on the journey that part came in).
I was thrown off slightly by the random bits of historic or cultural knowledge as I don't think it always added to the story (early talk of birds for example; I think the discussion around the homeless community was relevant and important).
I felt like the second part of the journey was a bit rushed in the telling, but that may be because it was just more of the same so nothing too write home about.
I was disappointed with the ending - I would have liked to hear how the uni course went/ how their lives looked now/ how Moth's health was after moving into the house . I realise this may have not been possible as i don't know how soon after the journey this book was written. It would have been nice to include an update though.
I always prefer when non-fiction books (especially biographical ones) are narrated by the author, and although I found her voice and slight lisp a bit jarring to listen to initially, I soon got used to it and enjoyed hearing her story from her voice.
Listened at 1.5x speed on the Libby app, borrowed through my local library.
