I would agree that this book needs a focus but I liked it. For some reason I thought is was for women, the blurb says this will provide beauty and style tips, which I wasn't interested in, so it took me a while to read the book. I do enjoy spending the time with Ru and I love his ideas about self and philosophy and there was some of that in here, which for me is what made the book worth reading.
There is a lot of filler, photos and randomness, but there's gems here too and you can read the book in a couple of hours.
On the Kindle you can see what other people have highlighted and I'm always interested in trying to find something else, something no one has highlighted yet. I picked out, in a section on other people's reactions to achieving your dreams:
"They believe that if you take a piece of pie, then that leaves less pie for them. Seeing you follow your dreams leaves them realizing that they're not following theirs. In truth, there is unlimited pie for everyone!"
I loved this. Ru said elsewhere that in an airplane you have to attach your own mask before you help someone else with theirs and I find that so true. If I don't take care of myself first I will not be properly able to take care or help anyone else, and people can see that as selfish. They think there's less pie for them. But in reality there is unlimited pie for everyone!
Mmmmm.... unlimited pie....

This book is so strange. I don't know if reading the kindle edition contributes to that, but it felt like very disjointed notes the Ru had down as ideas for a book. I'm a huge Ru fan and really enjoyed his first book, this one was just "meh". Listen to his podcast, what's the t?, for real charming insights. This book really needed a better editor.

I love me some RuPaul, but this book was all over the place. I couldn't tell if it was meant for aspiring drag queens (there was a whole chapter on wigs) or anyone who has an appreciation for Mama Ru. Half of it is comprised of photos which, while lovely, did feel like fluff to make up for a lack of content. Definitely not worth the $15 I paid for the Kindle version. I still give it 3 stars because I'm such a huge fan and there were a few gems of wisdom "tucked" here and there.

Conclusion: While Ms. Ru's runway looks soared off the pages like a majestic eagle, the book as a whole was a flamingo flop.
